Gabriel DropOut Episode 8 Review – “Fall School Life”

This week’s episode brings us bra problems, interview mishaps, hungry angels, and scared angels! Oh, my!

(Spoilers in this review)

Each girl gets her time to shine this time (some more received more screentime than others, though), which makes for a dynamic episode since they’re all so different in mindset and personality. Quite a few references to other shows and franchises, too! All in all, it was an amusing watch as usual.

The first part has Raphiel forcing herself into a bra that’s a bit too tight for her. Unfortunately for her, the first-years are scheduled to take physical fitness tests that day, so she tries her best to keep the bra from snapping. Cute bras are expensive so I can understand Raphiel’s valiant efforts!

Gabriel initially wants to skip out on the tests altogether, but Vignette says she’ll treat her to all-you-can-eat yakiniku if she tries. I wish I had a friend who would treat me to stuff if I threw a little tantrum. How lucky…

Satania decides to make this a contest and tries to take first place in every event. Gabriel is no match for the match for the devil since she’s a mere hikikomori otaku. And while Raphiel is pretty athletic, she is simply too conscious of her bra potentially snapping.

However, the two angels decide that they wouldn’t be able to bear Satania’s gloating for a week should she actually be undefeated in all events. As a result, Raphiel goes all-out in the 1000 meter dash. In the end, Raphiel is victorious – at the cost of her bra since the hooks snapped.

“You ain’t bad. Here’s a Special Satanichia Medal!”
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h13m44s939
I have a feeling Satania’s face on the medal is a reference to some older anime or manga.

The second part of the episode has Vignette and Satania taking an interview test together. Satania panics after learning that Sunglasses-sensei would be the one who oversees the test, but Gabriel hands Satania a book to help her prepare. Knowing Gabriel, this was an act of sabotage.

Long story short, Vignette pulls it off pretty well (although I’m not sure if her answers would work in an actual interview). Meanwhile, Satania acts like a complete idiot and gets punished. This episode isn’t going so well for Satania, it seems.

“Don’t try these yourself…!”

I-Ikari Gendo?! You haven’t aged well!
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h17m46s225
She still looks lovely like this.
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h28m26s343
Where did she pick up the cat?
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h35m08s420
Mission complete!
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h35m13s236
“Satanichia. We need to talk.”
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h35m18s865
“…I passed?! Yay!”

The third major part of the episode has Gabriel broke and hungry because she spent all of her money on microtransactions once again. As a result, she visits (and ends up joining) the Cooking Club because she wants to try out free food.

I have to admit, the girls in the Cooking Club are pretty cute. I particuarly like Takano (because ponytails are the best). We also get to find out that the Prez’s name is Machiko. …Eh? “The Cooking Club members, Takano, Ueno, and Machiko” has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

As thanks for feeding her (they even gave her seconds), Gabriel promises the girls a spot in heaven. Since Machiko doesn’t know Gabriel is an angel, she freaks out and thinks Gabriel is going to “send her to heaven” prematurely. Takano and Ueno, on the other hand, are overjoyed. They’re pretty cheerful girls! I highly doubt Gabriel has the authority to grant such a request, though.

Actually me back in school.

Machiko looks so silly in the picture on the left.

And put one little finger on each hand up?
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h47m22s101
Say it with me! C – U – T – E!
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h51m50s948
Apparently Takano made Gabriel a tanin-don. Don’t know what that is but it looks good.
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h52m13s416
Ueno made Gabriel a parfait! However , Gabriel is too focused on eating to listen to them.
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h52m32s772
TWIN-TAIL TENMA-TAN
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h53m29s264
Good to the very last drop.
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h53m50s753
Yes.

There was a short segment near the end of the episode where Raphiel and Satania head home together. Since it’s raining, they share an umbrella. It seems like Satania has learned to not trust Raphiel (you should also stop trusting Gabriel, Satania) and is incredibly suspicous of the angel, but Raphiel actually is not intending to do anything to Satania for once. I guess Raphiel does like Satania to a degree, which is nice.

After the rain stops, Satania learns that Raphiel is terrified of frogs. We get to hear Raphiel’s seiyuu, Hanazawa Kana, scream and it’s a wonderful sound. Happy belated birthday, Hanazawa-sama. And good for you, Satania. Another minor victory for you!

vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h56m56s332
“Let’s share an umbrella, Satania!”
vlcsnap-2017-02-27-18h57m03s483

Dang, Satania’s hands are small and cute.

Her weakness: revealed.

It’s payback time!

Same. Sounds like such an easy way to get good food.

R.I.P, Raph’s bra. You died for a good cause.
