Gabriel DropOut Episode 2 Review – “The Angel, the Demon, and the Class President”

Gab and Vign become better friends with Satania (kind of).

(Spoilers in this review

Gabriel, Vignette, and Satania decide to head to the cafeteria for once and eat lunch there. Gabriel tries to play a plank on Satania, but Satania has a terrible sense of taste so her overly-spiced udon tastes great to her.

We are also introduced to a normal human character, Class 1-B’s class representative, who is completely confused while listening to Gabriel and Vignette talk about their other duties.

Gab, Vign, and Satania try their hand at cooking during class. Hilarity ensues as Vignette struggles to complete the assigned dishes with their “help.”

The last part of the episode has Raphiel sneak into Satania’s apartment and basically try to trick Satania for her own amusement. The crafty angel claims to want to Satania’s apprentice yet tries to make Satania listen to her orders instead. And then the ED plays!

Thoughts on this episode:

  • While the episode continues to play up how it’s funny that angels are acting like bad people while demons are acting like respectable folk (well, Satania tries to be bad to no avail), this episode seemed more put-together to me.
  • Maybe because there were more scenes where there was more than just two characters talking to each other. Yes, Satania was frequently interacting with Gabriel and Vignette during this episode and it made the show more hilarious.
  • The whole bit with the class president of Class 1-B also featured three people, too. Bringing in a character who isn’t involved with Heaven or Hell creates room for misunderstandings which pushes the comedy to another level. Just look at Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun and you can see that a lot of comedy can be had through misunderstandings!
  • Still wondering what happens if a mere mortal finds out that they’re actually angels and demons. They’re not doing a great job keeping it a secret, but it seems like no one has put two-and-two together yet?
  • Vignette is such a patient girl. Will there be an episode where she gets fed up with everyone and then everyone realizes they’ll be taking her for granted?
  • I’m not sure what Raphiel’s deal is. It’ll be a lot harder for her to get her kicks from tricking Satania if she realizes that is what Raphiel is into. Hm…
  • The girls look pretty cool in the ED.

tl;dr – the inclusion of more three-person scenes has made the comedy better. Introducing a mortal who’s out of the loop should make for some amusing misunderstandings, too. Now the misunderstandings will work both ways!
