Urara Meirochou Episode 1 Review – “The Fortune-Teller Girl Sometimes Shows Her Stomach”

Cute girls doing fortune-telling (and exposing their stomachs)!

(Spoilers in this review

A wild child (Chiya), a serious girl (Kon), a shy girl (Nono), and Koume become apprentice fortune-tellers (under Nono’s big sister, who runs the fortune-telling shop called Urara) in the city of Meirochou.

My thoughts on Urara Meirochou thus far:

  • Chiya must have had a weird upbringing since she sincerely believes that one has to expose your stomach while apologizing. It sure makes for a lot of fanservice.
  • All the other girls stood out except for Koume. I looked around and found out that Koume apparently likes Western things? I guess that’s why she thought her birth name, Koume, was boring and why she pushed for the name, “Miss Plum?”
  • I really like the artstyle! It’s very pretty and the inclusion of flowers in quite a few scenes helps! The old-fashioned clothes are great!
  • I didn’t realize that there were so many types of fortune telling! Nina prefers tea cup fortune telling, Kon likes letting a fox possess her (whoa!), Nono uses a doll (of course the quiet girl falls back to ventriloquism in order to express her feelings), and Koume said cards (yet seemed a bit unsure). Chiya, of course, doesn’t have a clue about what she’d like to focus on. Now we can learn about the wide world of fortune-telling alongside her!
  • So far, the fortune-telling scenes have a sense of mysticalism. I don’t think my screenshots do it justice.
  • I’m already overwhelmed by yuri ships by episode one. Besides the fact that the guard’s subordinates have it bad for her, I can already start shipping Chiya to any of the girls. It’s like she has her own harem at this rate…

tl;dr – I have never given fortune-telling a proper chance in real life so this show piques my curiousity! There’s just so many kinds… the artstyle is just really adorable, too. I think I’m going to start looking forward to this one.
