Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku Episode 4 Review – “Add More Friends!”

With the newly added app feature allowing the magical girls to transfer magical candies to other magical girls, how will Snow White fare with the five-girl group targeting her large amount of magical candies? Who’s last in the weekly ranking? SPOILERS IN THIS EPISODE REVIEW.

I think this episode is a step in the right direction for Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku. Since the magical girls don’t know who to trust because everyone is desperate to live, the show suddenly has room for interesting developments as well as chances to demonstrate the girls’ magical abilities. That means combat scenes, YEAH!

Given how she has been interacting with the other magical girls thus far, however, I can’t say that Ruler being the one who ends up last (and thus dying) is a total surprise. I mean, she treated her followers like garbage and there was the instance of Nemurin entering Swim Swim’s dream and telling her that anyone can become a princess. As a result, Swim Swim came to the conclusion that she can’t be a ruler with Ruler around. At any rate, the backstabbing scheme itself was well done and I hope I’m not alone in appreciating Ruler’s “incompetent” followers pulling the wool over her eyes like that.

Obviously Snow White and La Pucelle, who both admire pure and just mahou shoujo, hate how the other magical girls are stooping to thievery and sneaky deeds, but this kind of dirty play is here to stay, I think. Since it gives the show its own identity, I’m all for it.

Ripple and Top Speed then meet up with Sister Nana and Weiss Winterprison on Sister Nana’s request. Ripple is on guard after what happened to Ruler, but we’ll have to see what happens next week.

The episode ends with the new magical girl roaming the streets. We’ve seen her in the OP and ED! And she seems obsessed with looking for a “white magical girl.” Snow White just can’t catch a break, it seems.

I guess genre savvy viewers would have guessed what happens in this episode with Ruler receiving some backstory.

Currently, the real Ruler is an arrogant office lady.

Her power reminded me of Lelouch from Code Geass, except with a lot more limitations.

That’s a pretty open-ended ability. She sounds like a very nice girl.

Calamity Mary was Ruler’s mentor. They didn’t get along very well. I guess outlaws drink Jack Daniels.

The real Swim Swim after having the dream that pushed her to decide Ruler has got to go.

What are you planning, Sister Nana?
vlcsnap-2016-10-22-15h15m48s603
Top Speed is a good girl, but she’s way too trusting.

Maybe this new magical girl saw Snow White doing her heroics hence her possible obsession?

Next week’s episode is titled, “New Character!” It’s gotta be about the new girl. See you next time!

  1. Teehee. Thanks for the bolded spoiler alert. XD You bring up nice points. Also, you totally called Swim Swim’s dream last review!! It was a nice episode. Dat super long sword. The Snow White breakdown! The fights! The backstabbing! My bloodlust has been satiated for the time being :p

And yea, did not like Ruler at all and was a little shocked but not sorry. Swim Swim has now attracted my attention. So devious. I’m gonna ponder a bit before reviewing.

    1. Haha you’re welcome. I should be the one thanking you since you were the one who made me conscious of my spoiler-heavy episode reviews.

I’m happy about that, but it was a week late since her dream happened back in episode 2. Still, it gives me hope that the anime will make use of
memorable events, elements, or scenes (Cranberry, please live up to my expectations). Shows with throwaway false ends are frustrating to me.

I thought it was a good episode, too. I guess the fans were just waiting for the fight scenes and in-fighting!
Ruler had it coming, yeah, but I was also surprised. In hindsight, the foreshadowing is clear, which is great.

I’m worried for Swim Swim. She’s a little girl and it has been repeatedly implied that she lacks knowledge. There’s a chance she’s going to get outplayed by the other schemers (then again, the scheme that happened here was great).

At least she’s being a nicer leader than Ruler, so the chance of betrayal is smaller. Still, the Peaky Angels have me anxious.

I’m looking forward to your review! They’re a lot more comprehensive than mine, after all.

      1. Those Peaky Angels are pretty sneaky, haha. Right now they follow a little too much.

Don’t sell yourself short. You hit all the right points concisely! Even more in your reply just now. I like to blather on. :3

  2. A very brilliant twist on a young girl dreams of “becoming a princess”. I was genuinely horrified when I found out Swin Swin’s age (around 7-10) when reading the novel. That chilling scene of her coming to conclusion that she can’t be a ruler with Ruler around when dreaming was actually from side stories. Anime did a very good job connecting those two.

Though I do wished that anime did not toned down Ruler’s horrible months long abuse under Calamity Mary where she revived a blow bigger than physical injuries she received and made her worse than what she would be.

Anime don’t make it clear just implied Ruler’s plan which was to save Tama (she was on the chopping block), kill the pesky, annoying new comer and run a test on her “followers” combat level to get revenge against Mary.

    1. Wow, thank you for dropping by and filling in the blanks for us. It seems like the studio did a good job in some parts and failed in other parts.

But yeah, seems like they kind of made Ruler more of a jerk than she really was, huh? I guess some of her actions and thoughts were implied, but I don’t think I would have put two and two together without your explanations. I do hope they make more of an effort to make these sort of things more apparent.

      Thanks once again!
